Pincushions!

Does anyone else have a pincushion that looks like mine?  It's just too stuffed and doesn't work properly! I'm always grabbing more than one pin or bent pins and my favorite tiny, vintage pins get lost in the sea. I guess every now and then one must perform a spring cleaning of the pincushion, eliminating bulk and what not, but I don't and certainly don't plan to!

After discovering this problem, I thought I could will myself to put the pins back in a less-saturated way. But oh no... we get in a rhythm while sewing and these pile ups just happen. Over and over I watch myself stick the pin in the same spot, like a small child decorating the Christmas tree!

Another complaint: the upholstrey weight fabric I used was  too thick to quickly stab a pin into, so many a pin tumbled to it's death, forever lost to the land of playful kittens, dust pans and unhappy feet.

All this to say that I decided to make a new pincushion and ended up with two extra! I put them in my ETSY shop and if you want one, go get it!!

Did I mention that they're hedgehogs?? Yeah, they're cute little hedgehogs...

Mandy & Myrtle

Mandy & Myrtle aren't spoken for...

If you buy one in my shop and write me a note that says something like... "I read your blog and want a hedgie!!" I'll refund your shipping! FRee Shipping if you mention my blog! Woo hoo! Bargin.

Hop to it kiddos!! Your hedgie awaits!

There's nothing like your friend's beautiful loft/shop/studio to make you want to move to Seattle...

My pals Isabelle & Nick are just amazing folk. They have converted a garage into this amazing home & studio for their growing business: Piano Nobile. Check out Isabelle's lovely bags in their Etsy store!

Kj and I had a lovely time chillin in the front "yard"with Bauhaus the puppy, some wine and some olives. We later went out for conveyor belt sushi and came back for strawberry rhubarb pie and a movie projected on the wall. Um, can you say best day ever?

On going to bed early...

Tonight I'm doing something I haven't since the start of the Brooklyn flea market six weeks ago: going to bed early! I'm headed out of town for a vacation, what? That's right. So with the 'making things' pressure off, I've been pacing around the house wondering what to do. Now, it's not like I don't have things to do... it's just, there's nothing that really justifies staying up past eleven. I can do it tomorrow, or on the plane, or my favorite, when I get back! Or maybe it doesn't even need to be done in the first place, like drooling over lofts/condos/co-op listings I can't afford on the internet. So rather than pace around, or stare at the computer one more hour, I decided to go to bed. Also, my apartment is freezing right now and I think my bed is really the only warm place! The cats are here (Dinah says hello btw) and we are cozied in for the night.

One last thing before I say adios to el web... my favorites thus far from the paper themed Poppytalk Handmade Market:

New Items in my Etsy Shop!!!

The other day I combined the two things I love most ( well a lot at least!) tiny drawings and making jewelry...and this tree necklace came out! I made a bunch of other drawing necklaces which I will post soon. I'm preparing for the Brooklyn Flea and an up coming paper themed Poppytalk Handmade.
In the process of taking photos, with myself as the only model, I completely missed the necklace... but I kinda like this photo anyway...

Friends Rule!

My good friend Sarah recommended my etsy site to a design blog called decor8 who in turn wrote about both of us in the same post! I'm supremely happy about the plug because I came home to find I had sold two things!! Thanks guys!!!

I'm especially glad that Sarah's beautiful work was mentioned as well because she deserves it! I mean, look at her paintings!!!!

I look forward to regular check ins with decor8 too, it looks fabulous!

Thanks again Sarah and decor8!

Weekend Update

Great News!! I just found out I got picked for Poppytalk Handmade! Yeah! I was so excited I decided to revamp my ETSY store and make new stuff. People will be able to view my products at Poppytalk, but will be linked to my etsy store if they want to buy so... it's gotta look fab!

I spent all morning Saturday doing a little photoshoot, which I'll soon post on Flickr. I know this is my own stuff and all, but I'm just in love with how it all looks. I had such a nice morning being a stylist & photographer!

The thing I'm REALY excited about though are my new "Trousseaus." (Can I make that plural???) I've had this idea for a while to gather lace, buttons, sewing needles and notions and organize them into little collections by color. I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to debut them and I can't emphasize enough how much I love them!!! I'm not doing it alone either. My amazing mom, Toni (aka Zu Zu... ha ha I outed you mom!!!) has been scouring the Maine flea markets, yard sales and especially ebay to find me great treasures for you all! Thanks Mom!!!

Here's what my room looked like during the making!

And the end results:

They will be up on my etsy store soon!!!

I'll leave you with some recent thrift store finds

and some sneak peaks of my favorite photos of Saturday

What I made today

That's right. It's a knitted mushroom necklace. I must have been inspired by all my nintendo playing in Maine... because I've been thinking about mushrooms a lot lately.

This little guy is wool with mohair spots and underbelly. (Not really sure what the under part is called on a mushroom!)He's about 3/4" on an 18" chain. Um, yeah, people will comment and you'll be super cute. Putting 3 in my ETSY store now!
